Demonstrating the effect of ceramide and amitryptline on apoptosis in human cardiomyocytes. Percentage of anti-activated caspase-3 (3A) and anti-PARP-1 cleavage (3B) positive cardiomyocytes. In the treated control group the time-dependent increase of apoptotic cardiomyoctes is significant (p < 0.05) if compared to the untreated control group. Ceramide had a higher impact on apoptosis if compared to the treated control group. Amitryptiline applied together with ceramide suppressed the proapoptotic effect of ceramide significantly (p < 0.05) (*).
