Sternal closure with the hybrid wire-cable-tie method. Following cardiothoracic surgical procedures, the manubrium sterni and the caudal end of the corpus sterni are coapted with stainless steel monofilament wire suture. Three sterile PEEK-based cable ties are then brought into the field (A) and placed evenly around the medial and cephalad portions of the corpus sterni (B-C). The cable ties are tightened (D) and the excess material trimmed (E). The final, fixated sternum is shown in (F)
