Electron-microscopic findings in the left ventricular myocardium in Case 1. a. Ultrastructural examination of the altered myocytes revealed a large number of glycogen granules in the cytoplasm, numerous small mitochondria (m), and dehiscence and a severely reduced volume fraction of sarcomeres (s). b. Increased lipofuscin granules and tortuosity of the nuclear membrane (n) are seen. c. Mitochondria of various sizes are seen. Strands of distorted sarcomeres without dehiscence are visible.
