Schematic representation of experimental design. C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups: Control group, DMF group, ALI group, and ALI + DMF group. Before the therapeutic experiment, mice in each group were pre-trained with Morris water maze (MMM) test for 4 consecutive days. Afterwards, during the experiment, the DMF group and ALI + DMF group mice were given a dose of 25 mg/kg DMF by gavage twice a day for 2 days (during 0 to 48 h), the control group and ALI group mice were subjected to methylcellulose as a vehicle. At 48 h, ALI and ALI + DMF group mice were airway injected with LPS, while Control and DMF group mice were administered with PBS buffer. At 0 h and 54 h, mice in each group were tested with Morris water maze test. After that, all mice were sacrificed and samples were collected
