Table 4 Effect of perioperative β-blockers on the incidence of postoperative AF

From: Postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting or cardiac valve surgery: intraoperative use of landiolol

Intraoperative β-blocker use Postoperative β-blocker use Incidence of postoperative AF
(+) (+) 4/41 (9.8%)
(+) (−) 1/16 (6.3%)
(−) (+) 3/16 (18.8%)
(−) (−) 9/32 (28.1%)
  1. AF: atrial fibrillation. There were no significant differences in the incidence of postoperative AF among the groups. Four of the 41 patients who received intraoperative and postoperative β-blockers developed postoperative AF. Two of these patients developed AF after discontinuation of postoperative β-blocker therapy.
