Histological examination revealed atypical spindle cells with hyperchromatic, pleomorphic nuclei and some mitoses but poor cellularity with marked myxoid tissue. Immunostains with CD34 show multifocal positivity for smooth muscle actin as well as focal positivity for desmin consistent with myofibroblastic differentiation (original magnification 200x) (right). These findings are consistent with intimal sarcoma.
